Much has been argued whether or not enterprises should or should not invest in social media. The present report shows how vulnerable corporations are if they don’t. Social media is one of the best ways to learn more about customers, their needs and excitements their problems and frustrations. At the same time, the wide open social web poses a huge threat to businesses who don’t take care of their customer base.

Social Media ROI Calculation
Unlike the typical marketing ROI, where the return is measured in leads, eyeballs or other intangible values while the investment is entered in a currency, it was our objective to calculate an ROI where we have both INVESTMENT and RETURN in the same currency. The model needed to be mathematical compatible to: Financial ROI = measuring the investment in a given currency and compare it with the corresponding profitability or margin in the same currency. Dollars on both sides of the equation!

Purpose
Educational Research
As the social media space is relatively young and rapidly evolving, some of the research the Social Media Academy is learn and expand the depth and width of its education program. As such students conduct research while studying known or at least currently understood behavior or best practices.

Industry Research
Some of the research conducted by the Social Media Academy is based on industry projects. This may be for social media product provider or businesses who are interested in very specific aspects of social media.
